The camel caravans that re-supplied the Andrews’ expeditions were led by a large white camel whose pack held a large American flag. The flag was not a statement of American pride but, rather, Andrews used it to make sure that anyone who messed with him or his men would know that they were messing with America; it served as insurance for his protection and it worked. Outside of a few run-ins with bandits and some political hassles, the expedition was able to work in relative safety and security.
