In the weeks before the Battle of the Little Bighorn, noted Lakota warrior and holy man, Sitting Bull, participated in a Sun Dance. Having 50 pieces of flesh cut from each arm, Sitting Bull then danced for three days facing the sun. On the third day he fell into a trance. In this trance he had a vision of many soldiers falling upside down into his camp. A voice then spoke to him, saying, “I give you these because they have no ears.” Sitting Bull took this vision to mean that there was a battle coming soon and that they would win. Two weeks later Custer attacked the camp where Sitting Bull was. |
