"Assassins; Bob & Charlie Ford"
Bob & Charlie Ford joined the James' gang in 1881. After working
closely with the governor of Missouri, the brothers betrayed their
leader and, on April 3, 1882, Bob pulled out his pistol and shot Jesse
James dead as the bandit stood on a chair adjusting a photograph of a
famous race horse.
As they fled the James' home, Boob yelled out, "I'm Bob Ford and I just
killed Jesse James!" Charlie, running alongside yelled out, "I'm
Charlie Ford and I saw him do it!"
The brothers never saw the entire $10,000.00 that the governor had
promised them.
In 1884 Charlie, now despondent over his role in the betrayal, and
dying of consumption, took his own life.
In 1894 Bob Ford was running a saloon in Crede, Colorado, when a
drifter named Edward O'Kelley walked in and shot Bob dead.
