The paintings in this exhibition evoke celestial events rather than depict them literally. Nebulas, solar flares, planetary surfaces, and distant galaxies emerge through layers of color, texture, and light, encouraging viewers to discover their own interpretations. Monumental in scale yet remarkably intricate, each work reveals new details with every viewing, offering a visual experience that is equally compelling from across the room or just inches away.

Larsen refers to his approach as "paint in motion." His process embraces both intention and spontaneity, allowing industrial materials, chemistry, gravity, and time to become collaborators in the creative act. Rather than forcing every outcome, he orchestrates conditions that allow the materials to respond naturally, producing textures and patterns that cannot be duplicated. The result is work that feels simultaneously controlled and organic -a balance of precision and unpredictability.

A lifelong experimenter, Larsen continually seeks new materials capable of expanding the expressive possibilities of paint. His most recent  paintings included here incorporate a specially formulated industrial resin infused with microscopic heat-treated glass flakes that create extraordinary depth and subtle luminosity. Light penetrates the layered surfaces before reflecting back to the viewer, giving the paintings an almost atmospheric quality that changes throughout the day.

A recent visit to Murano, Italy, further influenced this body of work. While there, Larsen visited renowned master glass artist Lino Tagliapietra, an extended family member whose innovations have shaped contemporary studio glass around the world. Tagliapietra shared specialized glass materials that Larsen has incorporated into several paintings in this exhibition. Rather than producing a glittering effect, these elements contribute a quiet radiance that enhances the paintings' cosmic character and remarkable sense of depth.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Larsen descends from generations of artists and craftsmen whose family history reaches back to the earliest exploration of Puget Sound. Creativity has remained a constant throughout his life. A graduate of Washington State University with degrees in Construction Management and Business Administration and a minor in Industrial Design, he balances successful careers as both a general contractor and fine artist. The same appreciation for craftsmanship, structural integrity, and thoughtful design that defines his construction projects is evident in every painting he creates.

Ultimately, Resonance is less about depicting outer space than expressing the invisible forces that connect matter, motion, light, and emotion. The paintings pulse with energy, inviting viewers to slow down, explore, and experience the work on both an intellectual and emotional
