Simple forms are consistent in all of Ellsworth's artwork where she enjoys working in series offering relationships, discovery and contrasts while creating visual situations from everyday experiences and observations. "Although I begin with a clear idea of what I am trying to achieve the paintings actually emerge from what I already know and what I learn along the way. Each new series directs the path I take and the journey is welcomed."
Her paintings are built of many thin layers of oil starting with a limited palette of bold colors on large canvases or wood panels. Subsequent layers allow the under paint to peek through and transparent glazes give the final surface a subtle tint.
With each work, Ellsworth invites the viewer to first look at the simplicity of the image and then beyond, opening the door to the imagination. In this exhibit, "Acclimation" explores the ongoing story of Pagau, The Black Dog from China and Rhu, the Texas stray that were both rescued and live a renewed existence with Ellsworth as they acclimate themselves to a new environment.
