Years of business and personal travel afforded the artist opportunity to experience and collect diverse works or artwork from Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell and others. In time, pencils, and markers became regular traveling companions - ideal for whimsically capturing people and places in a way photography never could.
At his home studio Thomas transforms sketches into sculpture, prints, and most recently - the fused glass masks featured. The work utilizes curved shapes, primary colors and patterns - just what you'd expect from an artist with a childerns book collection rivaling that of many libraries.
Ken Thomas studied art independently for many years, reading books on various aspects of art, looking at galleries, museums and attending seminars, always having a thirst for knowledge.
Many of Thomas' paintings have been sold at numerous charitable auctions as he continues to give back to the community.
His current work is almost exclusively on the development of fused glass masks as he is intrigued with the development of character in the mask format and the contrast of colors, shape, composition and opportunities for multiple layers of glass.
